Production blog: Peer review and tweaks

Image
As part of our filmmaking process, we engaged in peer review sessions where fellow filmmakers provided valuable feedback on our work.During these sessions, some reviewers expressed dissatisfaction with certain shots, particularly in regards to blending and coloring. Constructive criticism highlighted areas where our editing choices may have detracted from the overall visual cohesion of the film.Specific comments focused on inconsistencies in color grading, with some shots appearing overly saturated or mismatched with surrounding footage. Additionally, concerns were raised about the blending of certain scenes, where transitions between shots felt abrupt or disjointed. Recognizing the importance of incorporating feedback, we carefully considered each recommendation in our subsequent editing sessions. We revisited the problematic shots, experimenting with different color grading techniques to achieve a more harmonious visual aesthetic. Adjustments were made to saturation levels, hues, a

After gathering all the footage, we began the meticulous process of editing, starting with organizing the clips chronologically. We carefully reviewed each scene, ensuring it flowed seamlessly with the next to maintain narrative coherence. Our first step was to assemble the clips of the after-school acting scenes, focusing on capturing the emotions and interactions between the characters. We then integrated the shots of the light jog, adjusting the pacing to match the energy of the scene and adding dynamic transitions for fluidity. Next, we incorporated the footage of the mysterious man, strategically placing these shots to heighten suspense and intrigue throughout the film. The car shots were seamlessly integrated, emphasizing the speed and intensity of the action while maintaining visual continuity with the rest of the scenes. Throughout the editing process, we paid close attention to color grading, adjusting hues and tones to enhance the mood and atmosphere of each scene. For the

Production blog: after school film day

Image
After our school day was over, my friend Connor came over to my house to collaborate on filming for our short film project. We started by setting up the camera in the living room, adjusting the lighting and framing for the scene we planned to shoot. Once everything was set up, we moved to my room to film additional scenes, ensuring each shot captured the desired mood and emotion. Connor and I carefully mounted the camera on a tripod to ensure stability and precision in our shots. As we progressed with filming, we realized the need for some sportier attire to enhance certain scenes. Fortunately, we had prepared ahead of time and had some sporty clothes available for the characters in the film. We decided to incorporate drone shots into our project to add a dynamic and aerial perspective to the narrative. Connor offered his expertise in piloting drones, and together, we planned out the shots we wanted to capture. With Connor's assistance, we filmed some impressive drone shots of us

Productions Blog: Rolling shots and edits

Image
We commenced the filming session with a series of rolling shots, capturing the dynamic movement of the sports car from various close-up angles. These shots involved tracking the car closely to showcase its speed and agility, adding a sense of energy to the scene. Additionally, we incorporated several walking shots to further develop the character's presence and movement within the narrative, interspersing them with the rolling shots for variety. Throughout the filming process, we ensured to incorporate a variety of camera angles to enhance the visual storytelling, capturing the car's movement from both high and low perspectives. Low angles were strategically used to emphasize the power and presence of the car, amplifying its impact on the scene. Over-the-shoulder angles provided a unique perspective on the action, allowing the audience to experience the thrill of the ride alongside the character. Mysterious long shots were carefully crafted to create intrigue and suspense, le

Production blog: first edits

During the meticulous editing process, visual tweaks were applied to each scene in a specific order. Lighting adjustments were made to set the desired mood and atmosphere. This was followed by careful color grading to evoke specific emotions and reinforce the film's themes. Subtle visual effects were then seamlessly integrated to add depth and dimension. Framing and composition were refined to emphasize key elements within the frame. Smooth transitions between scenes maintained narrative flow. Pacing adjustments enhanced tension and rhythm throughout the film. Collaborative discussions ensured coherence and focus on the story. Each cut underwent scrutiny to eliminate distractions. Additional enhancements such as texture overlays, motion graphics, and cinematic filters were added for visual interest and style. Color correction techniques were employed to balance and harmonize the overall color palette. Strategic cropping and scaling were utilized to emphasize important visual elemen

Production blog: first filming day

Image
So today is the first filming day. We started with picking an outfit the makes my dad look bigger. We are also going for a more thug but also mysterious look. We picked dark pants, boots, and a leather jacket. The next step was prepping the camera. I put the camera in the gimbal, balanced it, and then we were ready to go. The way we started the clip was with a down angle of the paper. He then closes the folder then grabs a car key. We have yet to film the rollers but then we cut to the car being parked. The wheel badge is shown coming to a stop. The door then opens a black boot steps out. It then cuts to him walking down the hallway with the camera low not showing his face and rotating around his body. He stops at the mail drop off and then puts a lock pick into the mail box. This would be illegal but it is for our house, and the camera does a brief cut to when he gets it open. During the cut, he will put the real key into the box and then he it but it does not show on camera. And tha

Production blog: New problem

Image
So, the party event failed and that just caused a huge set back. We have time stamps we want to make and the party was going to be the easiest part to fill time while building a background conflict. Because of bad planning, it got cancelled before we could film. It is ok though because we are coming up with a scene that is going to start in the morning. Something that just introduces the setting of the area. My dads filming is supposed to take place this weekend, and it is looking good so far. Half of it is going to be very easy as it is just some walking clips. The part that makes it hard which we might not be able to do is the roller car clips. The clips we came up with for the morning is just going to be drone shots and little dialoged on a morning jog, walk. The faces will line up and cut to two pictures of their faces lined up on a paper as it shows they are part of a set up target. This introduces the mysterious man and cuts to him driving. He drives to the building the two frie

Production blog: New plan

So we ran into some issues, because of sports, we ended up missing filming days and, my dad had a business trip and we could not film his scenes so we are re-planning some of the story.  We weren't feeling our original opening scene idea either. The problem was that it just felt too much like a trailer instated of an opening scene. So, we decided to stick with the same story but the beginning is a girls' birthday party. Coincidentally, it also happened to be our friend's birthday in real life, so the timing worked out perfectly. The point of this is to make a conflict early in the story. There will not be much dialogue as it will mainly be music. This makes the dialogue conflict at the beginning. In this, it will be cutting in and out of a man in a nice car driving to deliver a package. This makes the setup plot of the story. The man delivers a package and then the mother comes to get it. Then she proceeds to give it to her son, he puts it on and then he makes a wish of h
