Production blog: Final Edits and Peer Reviews
Throughout the entire editing process, we used Adobe Premiere Pro as our main editing software. This powerful tool made it easier to manage video, audio, and sound design elements seamlessly. In Premiere Pro, I worked with multiple audio tracks, which was key for layering the added engine sounds and background music. The software's user-friendly timeline allowed me to adjust volumes and synchronize sound effects with the visuals. For example, when I incorporated the new engine sounds, I utilized keyframes to create smooth transitions, ensuring the audio matched the on-screen action perfectly. Additionally, Premiere Pro’s audio editing features helped me tackle the wind noise that appeared in some scenes. I used the audio effects panel to apply filters like the "DeNoise" effect to reduce unwanted sounds, along with EQ adjustments that enhanced the clarity of both engine noises and dialogue. This capability was essential in maintaining professional audio quality throughout the film. Using nested sequences in Premiere Pro was also a great advantage. This feature allowed me to group clips together for easier management, especially during complex scenes with multiple sound layers. I could isolate sections, make changes, and apply effects without disrupting the overall structure of the project. As I approached the final stages of editing, I arranged multiple peer review sessions to gather feedback from team members. Their insights were invaluable as they pointed out areas where the mix could be adjusted or where certain sounds could be more balanced. After listening to their suggestions, I fine-tuned aspects of the audio, enhancing the overall experience. I focused particularly on ensuring that the engine sounds had the right intensity and that any distracting wind noise was minimized. After making these final adjustments, I exported the film from Premiere Pro. The finished product came out to a total runtime of 4 minutes and 43 seconds. I ensured that we had high quality output ready for various platforms, optimizing the film for different viewing experiences. In summary, Adobe Premiere Pro played a crucial role in our editing process. Its diverse set of tools made our work more efficient and allowed us to create a polished final product. With sound design completed, engine noises added, and wind adjustments made, I felt confident about the final edit. We were excited and ready to share our project with the world!
