Production Blog: Color Grading and Editing
With all filming completed on the Lumix GH6, the focus has now shifted to the post-production phase. The excitement of capturing each scene has transitioned into the meticulous work of editing down all the clips we will be using. To begin, we gathered all the footage and organized it into folders based on scenes and takes. This made it easier to navigate through the material during the editing process. I spent several hours watching each clip, selecting the best takes that conveyed the story's emotions and action effectively. Some moments resonated more than others, and I carefully chose the clips that showcased the character's journey most compellingly. As I started assembling the timeline, I noticed some shots were a bit shaky, which could distract viewers from the narrative. Fortunately, the Lumix GH6 is known for its excellent video quality, so even the slightly shaky footage retained a lot of detail. I decided to use stabilization tools available in the editing software to smooth out these shots. After applying the stabilization, the difference was remarkable, making those scenes feel more polished and professional. Next came the important step of color grading. Utilizing the Lumix GH6’s vibrant color profiles, I aimed to enhance the visual mood of the film. I began by adjusting the contrast and saturation, giving the footage a more dynamic look. For the kitchen scenes, I aimed for warm, inviting tones, while the racing scenes called for cooler, more intense hues to amplify the adrenaline. I experimented with different color grades, trying to find a balance that fit the overall aesthetic of the film. The process was creative and rewarding, bringing out the emotions in each scene while ensuring continuity throughout. As I worked through the clips, I was excited to see how everything started to come together. The combination of careful editing, stabilization, and thoughtful color grading transformed the raw footage into a refined narrative. It was satisfying to see the progression from shooting to editing, and I felt a growing sense of anticipation for the final product. Now, with each scene polished and color graded, we're closer than ever to completing this project. The editing journey has not only shaped the film but has also solidified my understanding of the narrative we aimed to tell. I look forward to sharing the finished product with the team and viewers alike.
