Planning the video
Song Title
Central to every music video is the song. The heartbeat that gives life to the visuals. "Best Day of My Life" by American Authors is our muse, with the optimistic energy, and upbeat spirit. The song, which acts as a testament to seizing the day and making the most out of life's adventures, serves as our guiding star in this journey.
Props
Props can be the make or break of a music video, enhancing the storyline and amplifying the video's narrative. Drawing from the upbeat vibes of "Best Day of My Life", we plan on recreating "the perfect day". We plan on doing this by using props such as a phone, to represent getting text by your friend to hang out, a jet-ski to represent hanging out with that friend, and weights like dumbbells' and barbells to show us working out with that friend. All of these props are going to be used and aligned with the song to portray a "perfect day/weekend" with friends.
Costumes
Dressing the part can connect the viewer into the world the video narrates. For a track as upbeat as ours, we were thinking casual, comfortable, and colorful attire. Specifically bright pajamas when we wake up, bathing suits for when we are at the beach and finally, vibrant comfortable clothing for when we are at the gym. We plan on wearing casual clothing so everybody of all economic classes can input themselves into our music videos.
Schedule
Time is the backbone of production. Creating a comprehensive and strict timeline ensures that from the ideation, to the editing of the video, everything progresses smoothly and on schedule. Given the group dynamics, ensuring everyone's availability is crucial. Most of us have after-school activities we must attend, so we shared our schedules and attempted to work around it. We plan to call on weekdays at night to plan our storyboard and discuss when to start filming. Best case, we spend a weekend filming the first takes, a couple days after that will be allocated towards editing, and then another weekend after to refilm or touch-up anything that we don't like.
Location
The backdrop of a music video can narrate a story by its lonesome. For a song like "Best Day of My Life" we imagined a bright and vibrant background, which we will create by using the ocean and the sky as a back drop during the jet-skiing scene. In addition to a sunset at the end of the video while we are on the roof talking.
Backup Plan
From weather, to equipment failure, challenges will most likely arise. Which is why we have backup plans, whether it be alternate shoot locations, spare props, or backup "actors", we have planned ahead in the likely scenario something goes not according to plan. Backup file's of the video will be made and sent to our group chat, in addition to us having a whole different video plan ready in case of a weather disturbance.
